Ptosis is the medical term used to describe droopy upper eyelids. In this condition, the upper eyelid falls to a position
that is lower than normal. This can give a "sleepy" or tired appearance to your eyes.
Ptosis is described as either congenital (present around birth) or acquired. Each form of ptosis is treated differently. Ptosis can be caused from several factors, and should be evaluated by your eye doctor.
Your consultation
During your consultation please feel free to discuss your concerns and ask any questions you may have with Dr. Kwak. After a complete evaluation, Dr. Kwak will make recommendations. Some patients may require further medical and eye evaluations. Frequently, patients interested in double-eyelid surgery may be recommended ptosis surgery.
The surgery
Ptosis surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed under local anethesia. An incision is placed in a natural skin crease in your eyelid. Sutures are removed in 5-7 days. Most patients return to work in about one week. Swelling associated with the surgery can last 2 weeks or longer depending on the type of surgery required.
